Meet Our Breeder and Trainer:

Gary Sullivan has been raising and handling livestock since the 1960’s. He now has a 150 head commercial cow/calf operation on the family owned farm in Denham Springs, Louisiana.

Gary realized years ago that he needed a more effective and efficient way to gather, move, sort and pen cattle.  He tried different methods but was never satisfied until he purchased his first pair of trained stockdogs. He quickly realized he didn’t need all the help that was necessary before he had the trained dogs because the cattle learn to trust the dogs, therefore the cattle become more gentle and easier to work with. Now days he loads the dogs on his ranger and they pen or move the cows with no other help. He uses dogs in all aspects of the cattle operation.

Gary says, “I don’t have to worry about penning the cow/calf pairs since I started using these dogs. It’s something I enjoy now, I used to dread it because it was always a rodeo trying to get everything penned. It is fun and rewarding watching a good dog do what they are trained for.” Gary has tried several different breeds of stock dogs, but he is convinced that the Hangin’ Tree Cowdogs are the best all around dogs.
